2021 Bullet Journal Setup for Card Makers and Content Creators
Welcome to 2021 everybody!
One of my New Year's resolutions is to really focus on growing my Channel and also to be more organized in general. In the below video I talk about how I came to the conclusion that I wanted to try using a bullet journal yet again. If you're like me and have started a bullet journal in the past but never used it, let me know, I feel like I can't be the only one.
I saw this great video about the true purpose of a bullet journal which is to help you keep track of whatever you need. So this setup eliminates all the fluff and what I'm left with is things I want to keep track of consistently. So lets get into it.
The first 2 page spread is just a calendar and Birthdays planner. As a card maker, I need to stay on top of this stuff. There is nothing worse than not having a card ready for a loved one when this is what you do. Am I right? I don't feel like that one needs a lot of explanation.
The next 3 layouts are heavy on the Content Creation side. I won't be mad if you skip to the cardmaking section ;)
I'm using this spread to keep track of the content I've got planned. Highly secret, hence the sticky note. Just kidding, but I do want to maintain some mystery. The tabs at the top are the video idea or description, then the date, when I filmed the content, when I edited it, and finally what I upload it. I ultimately want to do some batch production of cards, so for example if I want to make 3-4 Valentine's day cards I would do all the shooting at one time, then the editing, then the uploading, etc.
This spread is to help me see where I'm at with my monetization goal. I'm not in a hurry, but my goal is to make this my full time job some day, and the first step to that is getting to monetization. This spread is particularly useful if you have to track progress for anything such as weight loss, savings, debt repayment, book reading goals, whatever you need. You can add them all over if you need to. I like this particular look because I have a little space to note when I hit that landmark, so as I move up it becomes a colorful representation of where I'm at.
This spread is for me to keep track of my analytics. There are a few key analytics that I refer to on a regular basis, and I wanted to see how they look month over month. So at the end of each month I am going to be filling this out to show how the last month went. YouTube Analytics lets you see the last 28 days, and that's what I'll be recording here on the first of every month. I feel it'll give me a nice overall idea of how I'm doing. I also had some extra space at the bottom, so I included some quotes from Think Media that I find particularly inspiring. If you're thinking of starting your own YouTube channel I highly recommend checking them out, I've included the link HERE.
As I was thinking about what I needed to be able to track, I came to the conclusion that I really just needed a monthly spread. So above is my January spread, and the following pages are the remaining 11 months. I haven't done those yet, because you don't need to setup the whole thing at one, or even keep it next to each other, but my OCD likes it, so I left the appropriate number of pages. I imagine the spread will remain consistent. You'll notice that I've landed on a regular publish day. I can also add to this as I get things done, which is what I did here. I filmed a lot of content last weekend, so it's part plan, part accomplishment tracker.
Now I didn't include the setup of this in the video. It was late at night and I wasn't thinking. I just really wanted to get my goals down on paper. I'm not ready to share all of them as they are quite personal, hence the covered up, but I wanted to write them down to refer to them. The short term goals on the right I wanted a whole page for. I wrote down 2 goals there, and when I reach them I want to write the next two and make it a bit of a To Do list with a checkmark so it'll be constantly changing throughout the year.
Another page I didn't film, but wanted to share nonetheless. I have a few projects planned, such as the Ink Pad Storage that I just need to know where I am in the process. I've included this little legend at the bottom, which if I'm being honest should be near the beginning of the journal, but I'm not letting it get to me and figure as long as I have it somewhere, we can improve on what does and doesn't work next year. It doesn't have to be perfect, just get it done though.
This last spread is closer to what I will likely be using for my cards. So I don't lose track of what I'm doing, I've been recording on a large sticky note all this information. I'm going to see if including it in this journal makes more sense for me. And that way I'm not wasting so many stickies. By the way, stickies in general are awesome, however, they can get lost. So if you are a person who's entire work station is covered in sticky notes, you're likely a person who misplaces them a lot, consider switching to a notebook, any notebook. So you don't lose track.
Okay, so that's my journal. Please let me know if you'd like to see more of this type of content going forward. I may do some simple flip-throughs as I complete projects, or just stick to a once a year share of my setup. By the way, because I've eliminated a lot of the fluff tracking pages, I may be able to fit a whole year into this single notebook, which is awesome.
